What is Composable Commerce?

with Marion Freijsen & Ray Bogman

The date: June 21st, the time: 9.00 am, the place: The Mermaid, London
The event? Meet Magento UK 2022!

That's right, Meet Magento UK is back and this year it's 100% in person!
Unfortunately, we here at Developer Connection aren't able to attend this year's event however, that doesn't stop it from being our most anticipated event of the year!

Over the next 15 days, we'll be publishing blogs with our insights, predictions and breakdowns of each of the 14 track sessions, the keynotes and their respective speakers.

As always, some quick housekeeping before we begin.
Since this is a live in-person event, there is always the possibility of change and disruption. Speakers may need to drop out, titles may need to change and, worst-case scenario, venues may need to close but rest assured, we will do everything we can to keep you up to date through this series and on our social media outlets.

OK, now that has been said, I think it's high time we dive into our first session coverage, don't you?

Business track - 11.00am - 11.30am

What is Composable Commerce?

In 2020, Gartner (technological research and consulting firm that conducts technology research and shares its findings and results with its clientele), summarised that...
"Digital commerce platforms are experiencing ongoing modularisation in a cloud-native, multi-experience world. Application leaders responsible for digital commerce should prepare for a “composable” approach using packaged business capabilities to move toward future-proof digital commerce experiences."

That's what we are talking about here. Composable Commerce is a highly customisable architecture that is made up of nodes called PBCs (Packaged Business Capabilities) which themselves are a collection of features, capabilities and/or applications. This method or approach essentially brings together all the best bits of digital commerce and combines or "Composes" them in a unique way specifically for your business needs.

It's important to note here that we aren't talking about eCommerce in particular but all of Commerce on the digital landscape. Your Magento installation, your Instagram store, your Whatsapp customer service group, your PayPal gateway, your checkout extension all of it. Composable Commerce allows you to custom build your dream digital commerce experience, not only for your customers but also for your business.

Think of it this way, it's like building your dream car using all of the parts you love from all of the cars, not just the make and model you happen to have. Composable Car-merce lets you build your Ford KA with the engine of a Ferarri, wheels of a Monster Truck and the look and feel of an Audi ... OK, maybe that's not the most appealing car but you get my point.

In this session, Marion Freijsen and Ray Bogman will lay down the knowledge you need to understand what Composable Commerce is, how it works and how it can make a difference to your business.

Is this session for me?

As with any new technology or architecture, Composable Commerce is not for the beginner. Your business is going to need a high level of digital maturity as there are a lot of moving parts to this process. It's agile and flexible yes but that comes at the cost of complexity.

If you are a small business owner and you just want to learn more or you're just curious about new methods etc. then this is for you, just don't expect it to be something you take home to meet the parents right away, for you this is the girl you make yourself better for before you ask her out.

For those of you who are medium to big businesses looking to expand your range of customisable options and improve your CX to make it more seamless then you don't want to miss this session

Our final thoughts...

The task of explaining what this new thing called Composable Commerce is, isn't and everything in between is far from easy but if you had to pick someone to do it then you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone better than the team of Marion and Ray.
